Should You Listen To What Your Parents Told You About Eating

There are a few things we were all told as kids that we either need to ignore, or pay attention to when it comes to ensuring we don’t overeat:-

1. “Don't drink while you are eating”

A glass of water either before, during or after your meal will help give you a feeling of being full

2. “Eat all the food on your plate”

❌

It’s a good idea to stop when you feel about 80% full. If you hate leaving food on your plate, then perhaps consider dishing up on a smaller plate


3. “Chew your food slowly”

✅

It takes a while for your body to register when you have had enough to eat. If you eat too much too fast, you won't get the benefit of those signals


4. “Use your knife and fork”

✅

Sit down at a table with a knife and fork. Savour and enjoy your food so that you feel satisfied and don’t feel the need to go looking for more.
